Modena egg hatched
Well, it's about time! I had a Modena egg hatch yesterday. As of this morning the 2nd egg hasn't hatched yet. Hopefully it will. This is the first live clutch they have had...I understand that Modena's aren't really good parents, so we shall see what happens. I had a set of Fantail eggs that were due about the same time, but apparently Ole' Jake got them. I have lost more blumming eggs to that stupid snake, and if I ever get half a chance, he will be one dead snake!
I do not have a single Fancy Pigeon that has successfully raised a clutch yet. Maybe when we get the individual breeder pens up things will go better. I would like to move the Modena's into the large cage today if I can get it all cleaned out for them. I'm just afraid Jake will get the baby(s) if I don't, even if they are up off the ground.
We got a really good rain during the late night, early morning and we sure needed it. As wet as it has been for the past year, going 4 weeks with no rain is hard. My yard has all these huge brown spots in them from the heat. I haven't mowed in 3-4 weeks because I'm afraid I might kill what's left of the grass. I'm having to water the Veggies constantly, but atleast I'm getting a few tomato's. Not nearly as many peppers tho. I have to say, I've been wearing the tomato's out before they get ripe, making fried green tomato's! Love them!
Edited to add. The Modena baby lived 3 days, until it got kicked out of the nest and died. :-(
